Lumberjack Chip

Since I discovered Windows Movie Maker and got my own inexpensive digital video camera, I've been filming everything. Yesterday I was going to be trimming some dead limbs from a tree at our back deck. I set my little camera down near the tree to see if I'd get some cool angles and interesting video.

I sawed off the biggest dead limb, but it didn't fall all the way to the ground. I could almost reach it from the ground, so I got my little three-step mini-ladder and stood on the top of it. I grabbed the dead branch and pulled it and shook it, but the thing still wouldn't come down. That's when I shifted into brainless redneck mode and decided to try hanging from the branch to see if my body weight would pull it free. Yep. That did the trick. Only I ended up pulling down a bunch of healthy limbs along with the dead one and it all came down right on top of me. I remember thinking just as I jumped off the step ladder that I would just run out from under the branch before it could hit me. I suppose I was thinking I had super powers or something - The Amazing Flash.

I did say a quick prayer for protection before I even started this project, so thanks be to God. I was protected from serious injury.

Melody and I both had a big laugh as we watched the video and listened to our comments back and forth after my fall. I think I'll send this to America's Funniest Videos.

Here's the video I captured.
