Why Would A Loving God...

I am blessed to work with some true believers, Christians I can lean on from time to time. Well, today I was in the therapy office doing some paperwork, but I was having trouble concentrating. I was deeply troubled in my spirit. Finally I turned to a friend who goes to the same church I attend, and I said, "Deb, why would a loving God allow.." But then I got choked up. After a moment I went on. "Why would a loving God allow Southern Gospel music?"

Inexplicably, Deb laughed at me. But then she suggested that I should remember that God loves people who love Southern Gospel. "Oh", I said. "You mean it's like how we should love the sinner but hate the sin?" She just shook her head at me. But then my other Christian friend, Toni, who had been listening said, "Chip, God alone is the Creator. Satan can't create, he can only distort". Now I thought this was very wise. Southern Gospel then is a distortion of the pure electric guitar driven rock music God has so richly blessed us with. I brought up the old Petra song, God Gave Rock And Roll To You (To Get His Message Through). I solemnly, softly sang the chorus three times.

Deb, who was still shaking her head, told me then that her husband loves Southern Gospel music. I promised Deb that I would be sure to remember her husband in prayer. Everyone was quiet and contemplative for a moment and then we all got back to work. I felt better for having gotten that off my chest.
